Our Annual Boxing Day Dip is in aid of Harbour Cancer Support. (Reg Charity no.1102055)
The Harbour Cancer Support Centre has been based in Gosport since 2001. They offer help, guidance and support to all cancer patients, their families and carers. The support ranges from a Drop in Centre with fully qualified counsellors, to practical help for all types of cancer, including information and complementary therapies. It is completely free and not restricted to any length of time. You can attend for as long as you need to.
Due to the success of last years Boxing Day Dip, all participants must pay an entry fee of £12.50 (see below for ticket details). This will be paid direct to Solent Swim School, so that we have your names. All proceeds will then be paid by us to Harbour Cancer Support. Participants can still raise sponsorship for their chosen charities with 100% of the money they raise going to the charity of their choice. We have sponsorship forms available and can send out a pdf document for you to print off. Participants must be registered for the Boxing Day Dip, in order to receive a sponsorship form. Participants are responsible for collecting their sponsorship monies themselves and passing it on to their chosen charity.
Tickets
Tickets cost £12.50 per person and are limited for safety reasons.
ALL participants must be registered to take part. Our insurance will not cover anyone who is not registered.
On the day, you will be able to dip in the sea for up to 10 minutes under the watchful eye of our safety team.
Numbers may be restricted on the day to comply with the dynamic risk assessment to a certain number of people per wave, in which case we will have several waves to allow you all to enter the water.
Tickets are now only available at the beach on the day. Please bring £12.50 to deposit in the sealed charity buckets.
Registration
Please meet us at Lee on Solent Beach. In front of the beach huts which are situated next to the Skate Park and On the Water Restaurant. The what3words is gentle.tiger.thank (the beach area) and the postcode for the road above is PO13 9LW. There is parking available along Marine Parade West which is metered at £1 an hour, or for free along the side streets.
The registration desk will be open at 10:30am. You must register to participate in the event. You will be given a wristband which you must wear to enter the water.
Safety in the Water
There will be a short safety brief BEFORE you enter the water.
The best way to get into the water is to do it slowly! A step at a time. Go in up to waist level and wait a minute or so for your breathing to relax. Then slowly submerge yourself up to your shoulders. That's your dip done!
What to Wear
The water will be cold in December and we are happy for you to wear wetsuits, gloves, hats and socks. Whatever you need to keep warm(ish!). Fancy dress is permitted and encouraged ! We highly recommend you consider wearing something on your feet, like aqua shoes or an old pair of trainers.
When you Leave the Water
Please bring plenty of warm layers to put on after your dip, plus a hot drink to help with the warm up process.
When you leave the water, immediately start drying yourself off and getting some warm layers on. If you have brought a hot drink with you then have a few good sips of it. It's important to move around after you are dressed. Wooly hats are ideal for keeping you warm.
Please note: you must be registered to take part.
We reserve the right to prevent any participants from entering the water and to pull participants from the water before the 10 minutes are up, if we feel that their safety would be compromised in any way.
As this is a charity event, there will be no refunds made if you cannot make the day.
